Through the field
“The Mifalot coach saved our children. The only thing that kept our kids off the streets and in the school were the soccer practices.”
-Etty Azran, Principle, “Gil” high school, Sderot.
The ‘Through the field’ program is Mifalot’s flagship program. Through the use of soccer, the program aims to promote children’s understanding of their role in a morally just society. The program has been endorsed by the Israeli Ministry of Education.
The ‘Through the field’ program is suited for children aged 8-11 and 12-13 and uses soccer to convey educational, social and moral messages. The program includes weekly professional soccer practices and social meetings during which the children learn various skills, norms and values.
The ‘Through the field’ program runs all over Israel, in more than 100 non-Jewish settlements (e.g. Muslim, Christian, Bedouin, Drouze, Circassian).
Note that each session accounts for approximately 1.5-4 hours of soccer practice a week. The topics addressed each session are illustrated through the world of sports that parallel real-life situations from the children’s life.
Note that we also run a ‘Through the field – girls only‘ program.
