Aston Villa Foundation – Premier League 4 Sport
Premier League 4 Sport is a programme funded by the Premier League and Sport England to encourage young people aged 14+ to actively participate in Olympic and Paralympic sports.
The Aston Villa PL4Sport programme uses the power of the club crest to encourage participation in the following sports: Badminton, Basketball, Girls Football, Golf, Netball, Table Tennis, Tennis and new for the 15/16 season Boxing.
PL4Sport has three main objectives:
- Provide chances for young people to take part in sport outside school hours
- Increase the diversity of sport
- Improve the infrastructure and supporting links between schools and clubs
The programme was created when the Premier League backed the London 2012 Olympic bid to build a lasting legacy of sport participation after the games. The overwhelming success of the programme and its hub/satellite model has led to the funding partnership between Sport England, The FA, and the Premier League.
Last season Aston Villa PL4S saw over 1400 participants take part in the programme across all parts of the city.
The Aston Villa Foundation works with each NGB to identify satellite clubs across the city and a hub club into which participants can progress if they show talent or greater interest in the respective sport.
The programme and satellite sessions are open to all young people who want to try these sports. Some of the key benefits of participation in the programme is the opportunity to participate in tournaments and represent Aston Villa against teams from other PL4Sport clubs.
If you are interested in finding out more or want to know where your nearest satellite location is for any of the sports offered please contact Debbi Rawson – 0121 327 2299 or email debbi.rawson@avfc.co.uk.
