OFI Crete FC- One island, one team, one hug
In March 2020, OFI Crete FC hosted more than 250 young refugees with their families in the “Theodoros Vardinogiannis” Stadium during a Super League match against Lamia FC. In addition, 25 children, who came from war zones in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq escorted the referees and the players of the two teams, while entering the stadium before kick off.
The action was in collaboration with “Heraklion Development Agency” and the support of the UNHCR, whose representative in Greece, Mr. Jason Hepps, also attented. Using football as a tool for social inclusion, helped young refugees and their families, who came to the stadium, feel welcome and an equal member of the community.
OFI Crete FC also sending strong messages against racism and racial discrimination.
