Northampton Town F.C. – Premier League Primary Stars
Launched in Autumn 2016, Premier League Primary Stars is a schools programme which uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
Working in partnership with the Premier League Charitable Fund, Northampton FC Community Trust is able to deliver a range of physical activity and classroom based sessions in primary schools across Northamptonshire. Following a successful pilot year, the programme was extended with the investment from the Premier League. This allowed the trust to contribute to improving the quality and standards of PE delivered at a primary school level by working closely with schools and teachers. The initiative is in response to the new Government agenda for school sport, putting increased emphasis on the importance of PE in primary schools.
The trust aim to provide the best possible PE and PSHE support to children from all backgrounds and all abilities. They provide each school with a tailored PE programme to meet their specific needs and the national curriculum requirements. As part of the offer the staff work closely with existing teaching staff to support with improving confidence in delivery.
Alongside PE support, Northampton Town FC Community Trust has a range of Multiskills and sport specific clubs, which take place before and after school, with sessions designed to be inclusive and enjoyable to all students. Away from PE, there are specially designed sessions to improve the confidence and ability of students in core subjects such as English and Maths, using football in particular along with other sports as a vehicle.
Moreover, the Trust is proud to deliver the Premier League Reading Stars Programme, a programme developed by the National Literacy Trust to engage young children with their reading and writing skills. It also organises Cross-Curricular sessions designed around reading, writing and mathematical skills, which give the students the opportunity to bring learning and PE together.
The programme provided by the Community Trust also allows partner schools to receive exclusive player and mascot appearances, free tickets to watch the Cobblers in action and the opportunity to enter local football competitions as well.
