Project details
Feyenoord – SV Gio
SV GIO is an after-school sports and educational pathway that lasts twenty weeks for children with learning difficulties, from 7th and 8th grade of primary school and the first year of secondary education. Students attend sports classes and work in groups of fifteen, once a week for two hours to improve their reading comprehension, spelling and arithmetic skills.
The ‘SV GIO’ programme is organized by Feyenoord in partnership with the Giovanni van Bronckhorst Foundation. The children attending the programme work with a coach on their personal development. As a result, they make leaps in their self-awareness and self-confidence, which also help them with their school performance. SV GIO concludes the programme with a sports day and a visit to the club.
At Feyenoord, SV GIO parents are the biggest supporters of the participating children. Fathers and mothers are, during sports and educational process, closely involved in the development of their daughters and sons. For them, at least five workshops are organized, for example on the transition from primary to secondary education, using social media or promoting a healthy lifestyle.
