Ferencvaros Against Racism

The 117 years old Ferencvárosi Torna Club has long been involved in a strenuous fight against racism and discrimination. The green-white club is aware of the demand of their 1,7 million supporters to stand up for the needy and the weak and to fight against the malicious.

In the last couple of years, the club produced various videos to air at the Groupama Arena and on the club’s numerous media channels. The main focus of the most recent campaign of the club is the fight against discrimination: Zoltán Gera, Somalia, Gábor Gyömbér, Roland Lamah, Cristian Ramírez, Dénes Dibusz and Dániel Böde participated in the production of the 20-second-long spot and appears on the advertising poster and social media cover. They strive to indicate that Fradi “always fights hard against discrimination” and that “Only our hearts are green-white”.

Being the first football club in Hungary supporting the cause, Ferencváros prepared the first campaign video in 2012 for which the Hungarian Olympic Committee gave its recognition in the form of a Fair Play Award in May, 2013. This recognition was not seen, however, as a final stage in our fight: the next campaign video was published already at the same month. Ferencvárosi TC did not stay inactive in 2014 either and wanted to show that as on the pitch, also in real life everyone is of equal value. Two of our legends, Péter Lipcsei and Attila Dragóner, together with our head coach, Thomas Doll, and two of our current players, Gábor Gyömbér and Somalia, said together no to racism in another campaign clip, claiming that it is only Fradi that matters.

Our club joined the Football People initiative of FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) in October 2014. From our squad Zoltán Gera, Roland Lamah, Attila Busai and Predrag Bosnjak talked how reprehensible discrimination is. Besides the top UEFA Champions League and Europa League clubs, stars such as Didier Drogba, André Schürrle, Yaya Touré or Andrea Pirlo joined the campaign.

This dedication is now extended with the present clip and campaign built around it. The elements of our campaign appear on the Hungarian sport televisions, on the official online and offline media channels, stating for the whole world that Ferencvárosi Torna Club can always be relied upon in the fight against racism. The seriousness of our determination is showed also by the players, who wear the captain armbands received through the Hungarian Football Federation from UEFA. They all want to demonstrate that they say a definite no to racism!
