FC EMMEN – SCORE A BOOK
FC Emmen and the Emmen library launch the ‘Score A Book’ project. The initiative centres on encouraging children to read and exercise as much as possible.
It’s a well-known fact that reading is extremely important for the language development of growing children. Nevertheless, especially in the region around Emmen, children don’t read enough. The region is even classified as one with low literacy levels. That’s why FC Emmen and the library of Emmen decided to start the project ‘Score a Book’
A unique reading project for 450 students of 4th and 5th grade in primary school. For eight weeks, children are challenged by first team goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen, ambassador of the project, to read as many books as they possibly can. Score a Book combines reading with sports, because you can score everywhere! Reading isn’t just very important, it’s also a lot of fun!
With two videos, in which Kjell Scherpen and a student are the protagonists, a visit from an FC Emmen OldStar and a festive closing day in the stadium De Oude Meerdijk, FC Emmen and Naoberschap United contribute to stimulating reading and exercise. On the closing day, the number of books that have been read is made public. A beautiful combination of reading and sports by exercising in school, children do better.
