The European Club Association (ECA) is the sole, independent body directly representing football clubs at European level. It replaces the G-14 Group and the European Club Forum, both dissolved at the beginning of 2008. ECA was fully recognised by UEFA and FIFA in a formal memorandum of understanding, which was first signed in January 2008.
ECA exists to directly represent football clubs and safeguard and promote their interests on European club football matters. The European Club Association strives to maintain a high level involvement in the decision-making process of football governing bodies and to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, information and services to its member clubs on European club football matters.
The ECA model is based on four key pillars, notably representation, participation, cooperation and service:

| Cooperation: | Commitment to play a major and constructive role in European football, together with UEFA, FIFA, leagues, players and the EU. | |
| Service: | To offer knowledge sharing, information and services to member clubs on European club football matters. |
Throughout all our activities, we aim to be constructive and challenging in order to really deliver results so we can follow our motto “LEADING THE WAY FOR FOOTBALL CLUBS IN EUROPE”.
The founding members of the European Club Association were Manchester United FC (ENG), Chelsea FC (ENG), Real Madrid CF (ESP), FC Barcelona (ESP), Juventus (ITA), AC Milan (ITA), Olympique Lyonnais (FRA), FC Bayern München (GER), FC Porto (POR), AFC Ajax (NED), Rangers FC (SCO), RSC Anderlecht (BEL), Olympiacos FC (GRE), FC Kobenhavn (DEN), GNK Dinamo (CRO) and Birkirkara FC (MLT).
