World Health Day 2020

7 April 2020

World Health Day 2020

The 7th of April marks the celebration of World Health Day each year, from its inception at the First Health Assembly in 1948 and since taking effect in 1950. This year, the celebration aims to create awareness of a specific, current health area of concern for the World Health Organization (WHO).

Over the past 50 years, this has brought to light important health issues such as mental health, maternal and child care, and climate change. The celebration is marked by activities which extend beyond the day itself and serves as an opportunity to focus worldwide attention on these important aspects of global health.

This World Health Day, we honour the contribution of nurses and midwives, recognising their vital role in keeping the world healthy. Nurses and other health workers are at the frontlines of COVID-19 response, putting their own health at risk to protect the broader community.

Whether it be through #SupporterofEachOther, #ClapForTheNHS, #ClapForKeyWorkers, #LightItUpBlue or through donations, we are proud to see our members showing their support for Nurses and other health workers/organisations working to protect us all from COVID-19.

Below, you can see some examples of how our member clubs are showing their support towards this year’s World Health Day theme, to honour Nurses and other health workers:
