EFDN Initiatives and Projects
Football for Climate Justice
Football for Climate Justice is a groundbreaking project that brings together European football clubs, associations, and researchers to tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time: the climate crisis.
Football has the power to inspire millions of people around the world, and with that comes a responsibility to use that influence for good. That’s why we’re harnessing the passion and resources of the football community to drive positive change in the fight against climate change.
Our mission is to create practical solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of football while also improving the lives of fans and their local communities. We’re collaborating with leading researchers to identify the most effective ways to reduce emissions from football operations, while also exploring innovative ways to use football as a tool for social and environmental progress.
Through Football for Climate Justice, we’re building a powerful network of football clubs and associations committed to making a difference, and we invite you to join us. Whether you’re a fan, player, coach, or administrator, your support can help drive the change we need to protect our planet for future generations. Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against climate change.
SDG STRIKER
SDG Striker is a project coordinated by Ecoserveis (ECO), a non-profit organisation specialising in environment and energy which has been working at the local and environmental level to promote sustainability since 1992 and is a leading reference in energy culture in Spain. The project is funded by the ERASMUS+ Programme of the European Union.
Its goal is to increase the organisational capacity for Good Governance in grassroots sports organisations by assisting them to implement and communicate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be achieved through ad hoc action at the local level so they can align themselves with European national and local public policy on the SDGs and by developing a joint understanding of best practices before, during and after being tested, and assess their potential for replication across the national federation and beyond national borders.
NBS EDUWORLD
NBS EduWORLD is a Horizon Europe project at the crossroads between nature-based solutions and education, a forerunner project blending the two topics. The result is a unique consortium bringing together researchers, educators, NBS practitioners, and even sports community members with the common goal of creating engaging and locally relevant educational materials centering on the environmental, social, and professional merits of NBS.
The need for NBS experts and other environmental professionals will only grow as the world faces the social, economic, and environmental consequences of climate change and strives to achieve a climate neutral economy. NBS EduWORLD provides educators with the resources to empower and inspire the decision makers and NBS professionals of tomorrow.
GREENFOOT
The Greenfoot project will develop and implement a community-based financing scheme for renovating football buildings including stadiums, practice facilities and related buildings (e.g. team headquarters, fitness centres) with energy efficiency and renewable energy measures.
The central social innovation of GREENFOOT is to develop creative crowdfunding investment packages that allow sports fans and community members to partner with their favourite clubs to improve energy use, fight climate change and contribute to a cleaner local environment.
The concept is to finance football building energy efficiency renovations and renewable energy installations through a crowd-funding scheme that propels Europeans to become active participants in the energy transition through their love of football.
