Wir (04) Helfen day

Stefan Kießling clearly enjoyed himself. For the first time in his life the striker was driving a digger – and all for a good cause.
The Wir (04)Helfen day was here and 80 members of the Bayer 04 staff made their way to the nursery on Schlehahnstraße in Opladen. They were joined by Werkself coach Roger Schmidt and skipper Lars Bender.
They worked hard to clean up the outside area at the nursery. Dressed in white pullovers and gloves the Bayer 04 gang moved in to improve the environment for the children and workers at the nursery. Over the course of the day a lot of new play equipment was set up, the hedges cut, weeds removed and a path laid down. Bayer 04 provided €30,000 for this project.

All departments represented

“It was a really good event,” said Kießling: “It’s always fun to help out and even more so when it’s for children.” Members of staff from all Bayer 04 departments were joined by players from the women’s Bundesliga team, coach Thomas Obliers and numerous youth players. And Brian the Lion was also keen to get stuck in. Many hands make light work.
While all the hammering and digging was going on at the nursery the children and nursery staff spent their day at the BayArena in a perfect exchange. They not only received a stadium tour but there was also lots to do for the children: from painting, face painting and loads of games. And in the afternoon they had the chance to inspect their “new” nursery. The Werkself had an appointment on the training ground at 16.00 CET.
Bayer 04 would like to thank Dusyma Kindergartenbedarf GmbH for supplying the games equipment, Lebenshilfe e.V., who provided the specialist expertise of 10 members of staff as well as the tools, and the restaurant Gretchen for the catering.
