Werder Bremen organised third Community Champions League match day
Our member Werder Bremen organised the third match day of their Community Champions League. The CCL is a Pan-European programme uniting street football, education and volunteering.
The Community Champions League teams in Bremen are playing in two groups. The teams of the first group were supported from the music class of the hosting school, entered the pitch with the Champions League anthem and ate at a nice buffet during the breaks.
Sophie Walter and Katharina Schiechtl, players of the Werder women team, paid a visit to the matchday of the second group. Both made themselves familiar with the concept of the league and took a lot of photos with the participating children. For me, Fair Play is very important. I like the idea of green cards,” said Katharina Schiechtl.
SOCIAL COMMITMENT is important
Education, Fair Play and volunteering are very important aspects of the programme. The coaches select the players having these aspects in mind. “We do not decide who will join because of the football skills but rather how much the children engage socially within the school,” said a coach of one of the participating school teams. The school collaborated with Werder for other social projects already before.
