WELCOME THROUGH FOOTBALL: WELCOME IN GENT
The KAA Gent Foundation will be part of our international project Welcome Through Football for the next three years (2021-2023), funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ sports programme.
Welcome Through Football promotes the integration of young refugees through sports. Each participating organisation developed its own practice. In the coming years, the different partners will work together and share experiences. Together with the partners, they want to pay extra attention to this theme and share stories with the general public in Gent as part of their socio-sports projects. Welcome Through Football is an EFDN initiative.
KAA Gent Foundation have decided to scale up the activities in the Nieuw Gent-Steenakker neighborhood to give more children more opportunities. The European resources are used, among other things, to offer these young people career opportunities as volunteers and assistant community coaches. Therefore, a “buddy system” will be set up that children and their environment can contribute to project activities.
Welcome Through Football is an international project of EFDN in cooperation with Werder Bremen, FC Emmen, AEK Athens, Everton FC, Sheffield United, Benfica, Newcastle United and the KAA Gent Foundation, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.
