Welcome Through Football – Promoting the integration of young refugees
Today is International Youth Day! Welcome Through Football is one of the EFDN initiatives that promote better living conditions and the individual development of young people across Europe. Our Welcome Through Football partners met earlier this week for another project meeting.
The Welcome Through Football project aims to assist in the integration and inclusion of recently arrived young refugees, asylum seekers and young people with a migrant background. EFDN and partners will develop and test a European methodology that uses football as a tool to reach refugees and migrants from different ages (7-25 years old) to get them physically and social active in European communities. Moreover, the project assists football coaches and youth workers in the development and sharing of effective methods in reaching out to the marginalised target group, in preventing racism and intolerance.
Project partners shared updates on the different delivery phases and project implementation in their local contexts. Most of them were still able to organise project activities with their beneficiaries. Benfica, for example, organised a stadium tour including a panel discussion with professional athletes and a city tour in Lisbon. The webinar participants talked also about deliverables, communication, and finance. The webinar concluded with the topic Monitoring & Evaluation and an update on the training with EFDN’s M&E partner Upshot.
