“Welcome through Football” a success at FC Emmen

EFDN visited member FC Emmen on Tuesday to attend a “Welcome through Football” training session and to discuss the current status of the project at the Dutch club.

“Welcome through Football” is a 12 months project with the purpose of sharing expertise, experiences and best practices of community programmes that focus on young refugees. FC Emmen is together with EFDN members Werder Bremen, Apollon Limassol, KAA Gent and Everton FC part of the Pan-European programme. It aims at sharing best practices and delivering a football-based social inclusion methodology directed at reaching and working with young refugees from the ages of 7 through to 25 years old.

High level of participation

FC Emmen is working in particular with kids. As EFDN saw, participation in the training sessions is quite high. The children that live together with their parents in a refugee center enjoy playing the beautiful game on the pitches. Many of the project participants gained already more self-confidence and are able to communicate in Dutch. EFDN is looking forward to discussing the outcomes of the first delivery phase with the FC Emmen and other participating clubs during the 3rd “Welcome through Football” project seminar in Barcelona in November. The seminar will take place one day before the kick-off of the 13th EFDN Conference (19th & 20th of November) at Camp Nou.
