FC Barcelona Foundation joins EFDN

We are proud to welcome the Foundation of FC Barcelona, Fundació Barcelona, as the 43rd member of the European Football for Development Network.

Futbol Club Barcelona is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Founded in 1899, the club has become a symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism.

Barcelona is one of the most widely supported teams in the world, and next to the impressive sportive achievements, FC Barcelona is having since years a substantial social impact, changing the life of many people through diverse programmes and initiatives.

FC Barcelona – ‘More than a club’

The FC Barcelona Foundation is the entity through which FC Barcelona conveys its corporate social responsibility.

Since its foundation in 1994, the FC Barcelona Foundation has helped people take part in the many social, cultural and sporting activities that the Club has carried out, a reflection of an advanced society that has found in the Club and the Foundation the ideal vehicle for such activities.

As of  2010, the players and coaching staff from the professional sections of the Club also donate 0.5% of their wages to the Foundation.

The FC Barcelona Foundation, on the basis of experience in the field of sport and values, proposes a programme of action aimed at transmitting positive values to children and adolescents, which involves sporting activities as a means to promote healthy development.

The four major programmes & initiatives, which the foundation delivers are:

  • ‘Barçakids’: A programme developed by the FC Barcelona Foundation for children aged 6 to 12 years. It aims at promoting and strengthen their system of values through the teaching principles of sport, play and inclusive participation.
  • ‘FutbolNet’: A programme that uses football as a tool to promote values among young people through an innovative teaching methodology.
  • ‘Making Dreams Come True’: A programme that tries to make the dreams of children with serious illnesses come true.
  • ‘Eat healthily, shop at the market’: A promotional campaign that encourages healthy eating by educating young people about the fresh products that are available at Barcelona’s markets.

All work of the Foundation must be consistent with the values of FC Barcelona and must prioritise the development of projects in Catalonia.
