Walking Football Sessions are in Full Gear at Benfica
It was a lively morning at Benfica’s Estadio da Luz, where 50+ years old football players could, once again, enjoy a session of Walking Football. The Benfica Foundation provides every week a Walking Football session to those who want to stay active and keep practicing the “beautiful game”. The number of participants is growing, not only in Lisbon but in many European countries. Indeed, Walking Football players enjoy a lot of advantages, such as health benefits. They also meet new people, interact with individuals and small groups and by that avoid becoming isolated.
The club of Benfica Lisbon was the first to lauch sessions in Portugal. Jorge Miranda, Director of the Benfica Foundation, is delighted to welcome a lot of participants: “And all of them were very excited to be able to play football again. We also had some women who wanted to experience Walking Football. And they all had a good time. With the strong support of a team of ex-athletes we now encourage 50+ football players to participate in this sport. Coaches and players will continue to promote active ageing.”

Benfica Foundation hopes that the European Legends Programme attracts a lot of new Walking Football players.
