Great turn out for Aberdeen’s Walking Football Festival

Earlier this week, more than 70 participants enjoyed a Walking Football festival at Aberdeen Sports Village. The annual festival welcomed 11 teams from across the North East of Scotland, 4 of the teams from Aberdeen, 1 from Inverurie and 2 from Ellon, Keith and Elgin.

AFCCT Community Coach Scott Duncan commented, “To have 11 different Walking Football groups from across the North-East come together for this festival shows how much this sport is growing in popularity. The enthusiasm participants still have for Football is unbelievable and it was great to witness many of the attendees rekindle old friendships and friendly rivalries for the afternoon.

Michael Craig from Inverurie, who couldn’t attend on the day but still loves Walking Football said, “I am very enthusiastic about Walking Fitba and play at every opportunity. It has helped me return to the beautiful game, all be it at a more sedate pace, most of the time. Barcelona’s “tiki taki” passing game re-imagined for those of us that no longer have the legs to run for 90 minutes. Fitba, fitness, friendship and fun! It’s rerr!

Walking football is a growing sport around the country and is ideal for older participants & those aiming to get in better shape.
