Vitesse Goals Programme Helps Children To Improve Their Lifestyle
Last week, Vitesse’s community project “Vitesse Goals” was launched. The kick-off, which was joined by social ambassador Edward Control and mascot Vito, took place at one of the five primary schools, where the programme will be delivered.
The programme Vitesse Goals stands for Healthy and Active Lifestyle and it will run the next two years in Malburgen – Imerloo in Arnhem. Vitesse Goals is designed for children aged between 6 to 12 years old, who are overweight or who do not participate sufficiently in physical activity. Vitesse Goals follows the objective of raising awareness among the children for a healthy lifestyle, which includes physical activity. Social ambassador Edward Control and mascot Vito were happy to attend the launch and to wish much success with the implementation of the programme. During the next eight weeks, the children will attend weekly sports classes given by a coach from Vitesse. Next to that, the groups will receive information on subjects as healthy eating, exercising and healthy lifestyle.Vitesse will also support the schools with preparing or optimising their healthy school policy. However, the assistance, which Vitesse will offer to the schools depends on the individual needs of the different schools.
Participants of the programme, who are overweight will be able to take part in a second phase of the intervention programme. The phase will include additional learning-activities and sport sessions, which will enable the children and their parents to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Cooking workshops will be offered to provide children and parents with information on cooking healthy and affordable food. The workshop will be given by Vitesse’s head cook. After the phase two programme, the children will be receive further supported from a Vitesse coach to provide them with guidance on a steady healthy lifestyle.
The project is brought into being with the support of the Sport Impuls grant from the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. It has been set up in collaboration with the VU University Medical Center and the Gelderland Sports Federation. Additionally, the physical therapists, movement scientists, trainers and the nutritionists of Vitesse contributed to the project. Vitesse Goals is supported by the Municipality of Arnhem and by the project Youth and Healthy Weight.

In case of financial difficulties, there will be financial support available for the children to join sport associations.
