Vitesse Betrokken in Bulgaria for FAN Cup
EFDN Member Stichting Vitesse Betrokken participates in this year’s FAN Cup in Bulgaria; together with their partners AM Support team and Presikhaaf University they gave 20 underprivileged young people and their coaches from the city of Arnhem the opportunity to travel to this tournament. Supported by 10 Vitesse Arnhem supporters and volunteers they have played the past matches on the beautiful pitches of the Albena Resort, Bulgaria.
The FAN CUP, part of an Erasmus+ programme, aims to increase knowledge and awareness regarding the positive role of sports and health-enhancing physical activity for personal wellbeing and health by presenting the unique role and opportunities which football has to offer. Sport is not always about championships, crowds of fans, solid infrastructure, equipment and training. The FAN CUP project will show that sports can be fun, attractive, cheap and can be practiced in both rich urban and poor peripheral areas. EFDN has put Vitesse in touch with the coordinator of the programme, Association Sport in the Free Time (ASFT).
The tournament has a social approach, where football is played during the day and in the evening the participants talk to clubs and municipalities from other countries about various social issues. The ten fans get to work on various themes related to fan behaviour. This will be supervised by supporter coordinator Denny Elfring. It needs no further explanation that this trip is a unique international experience for all participating groups.
The team of Vitesse Betrokken survived the group stage and qualified for the next round.
