Aston Villa Foundation launches four new disability programmes

The Aston Villa Foundation is launching a Blind Football session in August – one of four new disability programmes that the club’s official charity will run.

Alongside Blind Football, the Foundation is set to launch Cerebral Palsy, Girls’ PAN Disability and Visually Impaired football sessions in the coming months. The new provision was made possible thanks to a £6,000 Grow The Game grant from The FA and Football Foundation.

Disability Programmes Manager Debbi Rawson said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be expanding our provision and offering new opportunities to people in our local community. The four programmes represent a huge step forward for inclusivity at Aston Villa and we can’t wait to launch Blind Football this August.”

The Foundation’s Cerebral Palsy and Girls’ PAN Disability sessions are scheduled to start in September while the Visually Impaired provision will launch in 2019. To be eligible for Blind Football, the player must be registered as B1 (completely blind) and be over the age of 18. Sessions start on Sunday 5th August and will continue every Sunday from 1-2pm in the Academy Building at Villa Park.

Focus on Birmingham

The new projects are just one part of the community work of Aston Villa Foundation. The registered charity delivers projects and activities in Birmingham across four key themes; sport & recreation, health & wellbeing, education & development, and inclusion & community cohesion. The mission is to use Aston Villa Football Club as a vehicle to impact on local people, neighbourhoods and communities by addressing key local priorities.
