UNOPS S3i Innovation and Malmö FF team up for the SDGs

Malmö FF has become S3i Innovation Centres’ latest signing in an exciting new collaboration aimed at young Swedes.

Sweden’s most successful football club, Malmö FF, is the newest addition to the SDG Innovation Community of the S3i Innovation Centre in Sweden. A collaborative agreement was signed this week to work together to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new collaboration aims to reach the young people and diverse talent to engage with the Global Goals.

The Innovation for the SDG Community brings together corporations, institutions, and academia as well as innovative startups to solve global challenges with new insights and build the future. The goal of the community is to give everyone the power to contribute with their unique skill set, perspective, or opportunity to build real action towards achieving SDGs.

The aim of the engagement with S3i Innovation Centre in Sweden and Malmö FF is to build a more diverse and inclusive pipeline of future innovators. Known as a key organisation in their region, Malmö FF has, for several years, been driven by the global goals in their activities. Malmö FF works across schools, the city of Malmö, the region of Scania, and associations to inspire young people to take part in the future of urban cities with a particular focus on SDGs 4, 8, 12 and 17.

“Dedicating us to cross-sectoral collaboration is and has been the key to contribute to real change. As an organisation we are forming value chains with other sectors and are working hands on with the SDGs to make Malmö, Scania, and the world a better place. S3i Innovation Centre in Sweden is a fantastic platform for us to take the next step and combine innovation with Sport for change,” says Karin Heri, Head of Sustainability and CSR at Malmö FF.

S3i Innovation Centre in Sweden, along with offices in Japan and Antigua and Barbuda, is one of three S3i Innovation Centres that currently operate around the world. S3i Innovation Centre is an innovation facilitator, mobilising companies, startups, and people to help solve the SDGs together. In its unique role within the UN system, S3i Innovation Centre helps to gain insights into SDGs, identify global innovation opportunities, and close the gap between global needs and innovation capacities.

The collaboration with Malmö FF is a unique opportunity to have an impact in reaching young and diverse talent to engage with the Global Goals. If we want real change, we have to collaborate across the sectors,” says Jonas Michanek, Centre Manager, S3i Innovation Centre in Sweden.
