TOULOUSE FC’S ‘GREEN JOGGING’ ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE
Toulouse FC are leading the way within French football to promote environmental protection and sustainability initiatives. The Ligue 1 club, with the help of their foundation – “Fondation TFC” which has existed since 2001, dedicated the month of May in order to facilitate an enterprising framework called ‘Green Jogging’.
This was carried out with the support of Zero Waste Toulouse, an association of Zero Waste France, which aims to ‘support and educate the inhabitants of the Toulouse area towards real reduction in waste’. Zero Waste Toulouse possesses a strong volunteering network of around 50 volunteers who play their part in establishing a more sustainable society.
In the initiative, club staff and employees participated to move around the city’s famous Stadium de Toulouse and the surrounding Îles du Ramier area picking up garbage waste that included plastic, glass bottles, cigarette butts, paper waste and other types of recyclable and non-recyclable content.
The project was led by the club foundation’s ‘charge de mission’ Patrick Maricel.
The Îles du Ramier neighbourhood in Toulouse houses the stadium and other sports facilities within sprawling urban park area, where people usually stroll for leisure purposes. A large influx of citizens and outsiders tends to increase the carbon footprint of the region, thus increasing pollution.
