TOTTENHAM TAKES PART IN NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL WEEK

Jan Vertonghen and Spurs Ladies player Renee Hector visited John Warner School in Hertfordshire as part of the English Schools’ FA PlayStation Schools’ Cup – the biggest grassroots football competition in England.

It forms part of National Schools’ Football Week – a new initiative that reflects the spirit of competition, fair play and team work. John Warner School in Hoddesdon is one of many schools around the country that is staging football themed events and lessons throughout the week, using the popularity of football to inspire students both on and off the pitch.

Jan joined Spurs Ladies defender Renee to cheer on the school’s Under-15 girls’ team in their PlayStation Schools’ Cup fixture against Freman College. Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has provided football coaching to the team this season, with Renee stepping in as their coach.

Renee said: “Through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, I have had the privilege of coaching the Under-15 girls’ team at John Warner every week. They have been working hard in training, improving their skills and technique, so to see them put it all into practice has been really rewarding. I am proud of what they have achieved and hope that they continue to enjoy playing football as much as I do.”

Hayley Wood-Thompson, teacher at John Warner School, said: “Having both Jan and Renee at our school to help mark National School’s Football Week has been great fun. The children loved the energy and enthusiasm that they brought. We hope this experience will inspire our students to continue playing football.”
