The gift of joy
On December 4th, the Wolves visited sick children at their hospital on their annual Christmas visit.
In life, there are emotional moments and occasions which stay with you. One of these occurred on Tuesday as VfL Wolfsburg players Paul Verhaegh and Elvis Rexhbecaj along with Lara Dickenmann and Jana Burmeister from the women’s team visited sick children at a hospital. With plenty of presents in their sack, the players, together with club mascot Wölfi, gave courage and comfort to the young patients who aren’t able to spend the festive season at home. The Christmas hospital visit is one of VfL’s best traditions and provides heartwarming moments every year.
Spreading festive cheer
There was no fear of contact from the players, who spent a lot of time with the children and gave them gifts and experiences they will cherish. “Christmas is coming, and it’s nice for us to come here and see how easy it is to put a smile on the children’s faces and make them happy so that they can forget about their illness at least for one moment,” said VfL defender Verhaegh.
Delightful surprises
Of course, Wölfi also proved to be a popular visitor, as the VfL mascot was the secret star and brought joy to the children on his visits to the clinics in Wolfsburg, Gifhorn, Braunschweig, Stendal, Halberstadt, Salzgitter, Hildesheim and Magdeburg. His tour is not over yet, though. He will be back on the road on 7 December, visiting the children’s wards in Hannover and Haldensleben, where he will again be taking the kids’ minds off their illness, heartache or homesickness.
