The European Week Of Sport Is Approaching!
Mark your calendars! The European Commission initiative, ‘European Week Of Sport’ will run from 23 to 30 September!
This initiative aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe and beyond to #BeActive. This challenge and call for action is in response to the stagnating, and even declining levels of physical activity in Europe. It is important to realise the fundamental benefiting effects sport and physical activity have to the health and well-being of individuals and thus, everyone is encouraged to join the #BeActive community for empowerment and motivation!
The community will provide an inspiring resource of solutions featuring real-life stories showcasing connections between individuals and the well-being nurtured through sport. Officially launched on 23 June, the message is promoted all year long, especially during the highlighted Week (23-30) itself.
Previously, the #BeActive 2022 campaign took place in 40 countries and regions across Europe, held 32.8 thousand events and welcomed 13.2 million participants. The Week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level.
2023 Creative Pillars
As a message promoting mental and physical health, social inclusion, green principles and creativity. This year, the 3 creative pillars that the #BeActive campaign encompasses are:
- Involvement
- Inclusion
- Innovation
Sports has the power to unite people and boost their sense of identity, making it more than just physical activity—it’s a dynamic force that benefits both the mind and body.

EFDN Initiatives
European Healthy Football League
At EFDN, we have launched the European Healthy Football League, which is an app-based competition encouraging football fans of all ages to make healthy lifestyle choices and compete against fans from other clubs. Together with their fans, the clubs strive to become the healthiest club in the city, country and Europe. Any fan with a phone using Android or iOS can register and start scoring points for their club.
Scoring For Health
The Scoring for Health programme encourages children from the ages of 7 to 13, and their parents, to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make them aware of the value of eating healthily and being active. One of the drivers behind the programme is the work by the World Health Organisation, which finds that obesity in children remains an important public health problem in Europe.
Walking Football League
The Walking Football League aims to deliver health-enhancing physical activity to people over the age of 50 years old, as well as provide opportunities to increase social inclusion levels, allowing them to lead a physically and socially active lifestyle in their European community. The Walking Football League will further develop Walking Football as a sustainable sport in Europe and raise the profile of the game.
