Swinging seniors during third national balcony day
On May 20th, the initiative of the National Parents Fund and Menzis was carried out at more than 250 locations throughout the country. In cooperation with ADO Den Haag in de Maatschappij, a real exercise party was organised at HWW Zorg’s Rivierenbuurt location during the third edition of the National Balcony Awareness Day.
At coffee time, the courtyard of the Rivierenbuurt location was transformed into a dance floor. The music boxes were set up, the flags were hung and the four floors were made free for the residents. Around 11 o’clock, Manna from the residential care centre opened the activity.
The neighbourhood sports coaches of ADO Den Haag in de Maatschappij and ADO Den Haag OldStars Ben, Theo and Soodoo opened the activity with various dance moves, filling the dance floor and balcony with elderly people who were eager to move. To classics such as ‘Twee Motten’ and ‘Let’s Twist Again’, people rolled up their sleeves and threw their hips into the air. Then the elderly started to practice various forms of exercise from other sports such as boxing, volleyball, tennis and swimming.
There was also room for various request numbers such as ‘Wasmasjien’ by Traffasi and ‘Sexy Als Ik Dans’ by Nielson. These too were well received and a real polonaise was inevitable. However, the end of this movement moment was soon over with the appropriate ‘O, O, Den Haag’ as a finale. “Will you be coming back next year?
