Svensk Elitfotboll partners with Pandemic Foundation

The Swedish Society for Virology or the Pandemic Foundation, as it is also now known, has started a collaboration with Swedish Elite Football (SEF) in order to facilitate research and better inform the effect of the global pandemic on the society.

The foundation was formed in 2009 in cohorts with scientists and researchers at various leading Swedish universities. There are reportedly around 250 personnel dedicated to the cause.

The Swedish Professional Football Leagues (SEF), which is the governing body of the Swedish league system, have collaborated with the mission to disseminate information, promote knowledge and facilitate research on viruses. Football is a key player in society that plays a huge role in spreading the word.

It is in the best interests of both organizations to play their part in their respective fields, for a single cause – the fight against deadly viruses.

In the past two decades, swine flu, Ebola virus, Marburg virus, Nipah etc. have been the centre of virus outbreaks – until the arrival of the elephant in the room. The current coronavirus catastrophe has taken the world by storm and although infections continue to be recorded, inoculations of millions around the globe seems to have dimmed anxiety among the masses.

SEF’s sustainability framework fits well with UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages) & the vision of Pandemic Foundation – to work hand-in-hand for better future preparations, in the event of another crisis.
