The Foundation of Light Raises Funds at Summer Family Fun Day
The Foundation of Light successfully raised over £5,000 while providing a day full of activities for children at their latest Family Fun Day. The event, held at the Beacon of Light, welcomed more than 1,000 people who enjoyed a wide range of sports, games, and stalls throughout the community hub.
Recognizing the challenges that summer can bring for children, particularly social isolation when away from school friends and daily routines, the Foundation aimed to create an inclusive and affordable day for families. For just a £2 donation, attendees participated in various football challenges, basketball, golf, cupcake decorating, arts and crafts, and many more activities, including those designed for children with disabilities.
“The whole day has been a massive success. We are incredibly grateful to everyone for coming along and helping to fundraise for a great cause, with over 1,000 people joining us at the Beacon. We hope families got to see the vast array of activity the Beacon of Light provides all year round and that they are back for more soon.”
Lesley Spuhler, CEO of the Foundation of Light, Sunderland AFC
The Beacon of Light is open seven days a week, offering facilities such as five-a-side football, a 4G rooftop pitch, and an indoor arena for table tennis, basketball, badminton, netball, and other multi-use games. All proceeds from the Family Fun Day and other Beacon of Light bookings directly support the Foundation of Light’s mission to tackle some of the region’s biggest challenges, including obesity, unemployment, anti-social behavior, and poor mental health.
