FC Twente’s Suitable Sports Project introduces Horseback Riding

FC Twente, Scoring for the community, offers the project ‘Passend Sporten’, Suitable Sports in the municipalities of Hengelo and Enschede. This project aims at children between 6 and 13 years of age who are in special education or in families experiencing difficulties.

In the first six weeks of the project, the activities are mainly aimed at improving various sports and game elements as well as mental resilience. In the remaining weeks, the children are introduced to various disciplines of sport.

On 12 April, for example, the children were introduced to horse riding. This took place at the Roessingh riding school. For many children, this was a new experience because they had never met horses up close before. During this guest lesson, various activities were performed. These included brushing and caring for the ponies.

Of course, the horses were also ridden. First under the hand of an instructor, after which, once they had built up enough confidence, the children were allowed to ride on the lunge (a longer rope held by the instructor). All in all, this made for an enjoyable day and a successful introduction to horses and riding school Het Roessingh.
