STEM lesson with Mykhailo Mudryk at Shakhtar Social
Last week, Shakhtar Social held one of the STEM skills classes for schoolchildren at the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv. FC Shakhtar midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk attended the offsite lesson together with the pupils of the Kyiv school No. 237.
The children and the footballer learned how to program Sphero Bolt robots to repeat the player’s actions on the pitch. After watching a video clip of the Kolos vs Shakhtar match, the schoolchildren used their tablets to program the robots to repeat Mykhailo’s movement on the field and the goal he scored.
“I liked the kids’ emotions and their way of thinking,” […] “I saw the excitement in their eyes, which is the most important thing. It was interesting as this is a new experience for me too!”

“The main thing is to show the children that there are new technologies, how the world is developing, in which direction to look when they choose their future profession. The main objective is to get them interested in technology and, probably, also to cause them ‘fall in love with football’ in a way.”
Inna Khmyzova, the Director of Shakhtar Social
The project is being implemented by Shakhtar Social with the support of the UEFA Foundation and EFDN. The training programme for schoolchildren in Kyiv was launched in September this year. Within two years, about 600 children aged 9 to 12 will take part in it.
EFDN STEM NETWORK
EFDN and partner Sphero have implemented a forward-thinking STEM Network to promote this field of study throughout the European football community. The EFDN STEM Network aims to engage EFDN member clubs, leagues and FAs who are keen to start their own journey of STEM Education for their club and community and want to be part of an alliance that will drive change and impact across Europe.
