Stand together to increase provision amidst cost of living crisis!
Everton in the Community’s Stand Together programme is broadening its support to more people identified as vulnerable in response to the rise in the cost of living.
The programme, which has been running since 2017 supports adults aged 70 years and older who are at risk of being lonely and socially isolated with free educational, therapeutic activity sessions and social enrichment trips in a safe and supportive environment.
As part of the programme’s relaunch, Stand Together will place a further emphasis on supporting participants with money management and advice, as well as fear of safety, risk of accidents and underlying health conditions.
Stand Together, which is funded through the Premier League Charitable Fund will also aim to engage more residential care home and carers of elderly relatives, with the UK population aged 65 and over forecasted to increase by 40% over the next 20 years.
The sessions are delivered weekly at the charity’s Blue Base facility on Salop Street and ensures participants become more physically active, connect with other likeminded people, learn new skills, gain new knowledge whilst enabling them to feel more confident to spend more time in the local community.
“Stand Together has a proven track record of tackling social isolation amongst the older population, and we hope the expansion of the programme will provide more vital social support to mitigate poor health outcomes and build resilience within the community that enables better outcomes for all concerned.”
