The Special Champions League tournament organised by EFDN in Leverkusen showcased the exceptional skills and spirit of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Let’s congratulate the participants for their inspiring achievements on and off the pitch.
Unity, Sportsmanship, and Determination
On the eve of the tournament, we gathered the teams for a delightful dinner at the Lindner Hotel, located within the BayArena. To add to the excitement, we organised a lively variation of Bingo, infused with the spirit of football, as well as an “Oreo challenge” among the coaches of each team.
The tournament, co-funded by the European Union, brought together 170 footballers and staff members from across Europe (Germany, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and England), promoting unity and celebrating diversity. The participants displayed remarkable sportsmanship and unwavering determination, inspiring everyone with their passion for the game.
The players enjoyed a delicious lunch, once again graciously provided by Bayer 04 Leverkusen, within the BayArena. Following the meal, a group picture was taken inside the Arena and right after they resumed the afternoon session, engaging in the remaining games. The thrilling day concluded with a grand medal ceremony, honoring the participants’ achievements.
