SIDFOOT – Promoting social inclusion in disconnected neighbourhoods

Partners from six European countries met at the stadium of our member NAC Breda for the first SIDFOOT project meeting. The aim of the new Pan-European project is to promote physical activity and social inclusion in disconnected neighbourhoods through sport.

Community drivers play a key role in the SIDFOOT methodology. The community drivers act as role models and motivate children and youth, from disadvantaged neighbourhoods, to move, play and adapt to a healthier lifestyle.  These agents of change will be educated and supported by the project while creating safe spaces in the community and building relationships with children and youth. Sustainable project delivery will be ensured by continuous monitoring and evaluation and close collaboration with public authorities, educational institutions and sports organisations.

Sharing best-practices

The agenda on 11 February included an introductory presentation by each partner followed by a SIDFOOT project overview. The participating organisations agreed on the methodology for collecting and sharing best practices on sport as a tool for social inclusion. Attendees also brainstormed about the communication and dissemination strategy of the project. Furthermore, partners discussed administrative issues and agreed on the next steps of SIDFOOT. The 2nd project meeting will take place in Vienna, Austria in July 2020 where the first intellectual output of the project will be presented.
