Shakhtar Social initiate STEM project backed by UEFA and EFDN
Backed by the support of UEFA Foundation and EFDN, the community-focused arm of Shakhtar Donetsk has started implementing the STEM project.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are the core foundations of the learning process of youngsters in the technical field and this project enables children to learn the basics of coding through football.
The initiative has been utilised in schools in Kyiv, with the first programme being launched in September – at the secondary school No.237 in Ukraine’s capital city. This sees primary school children belonging to the fifth, sixth and seventh grades, train in classroom conditions on different topics of coding.
Each child will be subject to six lessions using Sphero Bolt tablets and robots that have been installed with the company’s education programme.
Through drawings and other visual mediums such as block-based coding, youngsters will be able to learn different methodologies and implement them in actual settings.
It lasts for two years and about 600 children are touted to benefit from the programme.
