‘Scoring in Drenthe’ big success at FC Emmen

For six months, fifteen young people and young adults from the ‘Arbeidsmarktregio’ (Labour Market region) in Drenthe worked on their personal development under the guidance of job coaches from USG Restart and employees of FC Emmen Naoberschap.

When it comes to results, nine of the fifteen participants have now found a suitable training course or work (experience) place. The future also looks bright for the remaining six participants. Under the guidance of USG Restart job coaches they are given a little more time to take the final step towards a course or job. The ultimate goal of this project is to help the participants find a suitable education or job.

Programme

Relations of FC Emmen Naoberschap and the Arbeidsmarktregio Drenthe were invited especially for the closing of the Scoring project in Drenthe. First, the participants of the Scoring project in Drenthe had to compete in a football match against a team of FC Emmen (Naoberschap). The team consisted of employees of FC Emmen Naoberschap, USG Restart and various municipalities. The fact that the participants have been training twice a week for the past year was clearly visible during the match. Under the eye of other guests, the FC Emmen (Naoberschap) team managed to take a 2-0 lead in the early stages of the match, but when fatigue set in, the participants of Scoren in Drenthe pulled the match to themselves. In the end, the score was 7-4.

Looking back

After the players had freshened up, it was time to look back at the past six months. Job coach Ferdi van Spall took those present through an extensive review of Scoren in Drenthe by means of a presentation. He told about getting acquainted in the first phase, but also the presentation of the clothing packages by FC Emmen head coach Dick Lukkien, setting goals with FC Emmen captain Jeroen Veldmate and the working visit to Volkerwessels’ vocational school were not to be missed. Following this review, participants Metin and Andrea talked about their experiences during Scoring in Drenthe.

Continued

Agneta Meijer, project coordinator for tackling youth unemployment in the Drenthe Labour Market region, then took those present on a journey through the future of Scoring in Drenthe. Due to the positive results of the first edition of Scoring in Drenthe (a large majority of participants have made great strides in their personal development), the project will be continued in the new football season.

Informal after-party

With this positive news, Jos Schaart, manager of FC Emmen Naoberschap, invited those present to enjoy an informal after-dinner drink. It stayed cosy for a long time at De Oude Meerdijk!
