Schalke Hilft! – Football Fans in Training
During the season 2016/2017, the programme Football Fans in Training was introduced for the first time by Bundesliga 1 & 2 clubs in cooperation with the Institute for Therapy- and Medical Research (IFT Nord) and the German Cancer Aid Foundation.
Among others, Schalke 04 participated in the project! The programme provides football fans with the opportunity to improve their health condition, well-being, to learn about a healthy lifestyle and to become physically active again, thereby losing weight. Additionally, FITfans in Training contributes to reducing the risk of developing cancer.
Fussballfans im Training- Schalke hilft!
FITfans in training is a programme for male fans, which are 35- to 65 years old, who would like to improve their health condition and well-being. As a requirement, the participants must have at least an abdominal girth of 100 cm.
The programme
The 12-week programme constitutes of sessions, taking 90 minutes, in which the participants learn about nutrition, health and well-being, healthy weight loss and where they take part in physical activities.
Most components of the programme take place in the training facilities of football club Schalke 04. Professional support is given by track and field athlete Timo Krampen, Kai Brock from the Youth Academy and instructor Boris Liebing.
Last season, the programme was a great success!
Sebastian Buntkirchen, manager of Schalke’s community department Schalke hilft! says that the programme was a great success during the season 2016/2017. Therefore, the decision to release the second edition of the ‘Fussballfans im Training’ Programme was easily made.
“The commitment, motivation and feedback of the participants was for use a clear signal that the programme needed to continue. We aim at contributing to the health and well-being of our fans. Therefore, I am really glad that we will continue with the programme during the season 2017/2018. I hope that again, as many participants as possible will be able to complete the course with a positive feeling.”
