Saints reveal new away kit at Calshot beach
Southampton Football Club today revealed the new 2021/22 away kit, produced by Official Kit Supplier hummel.
The new designs were unveiled by players from the club’s Women’s team, B Team and Academy as they took part in a beach clean at Calshot to highlight the importance of looking after the environment.
The club is committed to helping protect the future of our planet, as part of Saints’ sustainability strategy, The Halo Effect – hummel share this commitment and have produced all three of this season’s kits using Eco8 material, made from fabric created using recycled plastic bottles.
This season’s away kit sees a return of Southampton’s traditional yellow alternative shirts with the bespoke design taking inspiration from the club’s kit worn between 1991/93, incorporating a new flame graphic for a modern twist. The shirt’s design also pays tribute to both St Mary’s and The Dell, with detailed structural design of both stadiums featuring on the inner back neck of the shirt, a tribute to 20 years at St Mary’s on the back, and the names of stands from both grounds printed on the inner back neck hem.
SDG Striker: Greener alternatives to microplastics
Co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus + Sport Programme, the SDG Striker project aims to increase the organisational capacity for Good Governance in grassroots sport organisations. It assists them to implement and communicate the Sustainable Development Goals through actions at local level so they can align themselves with European, national and local public policy on SDGs. This is done through the testing of three pilots in Portugal, Scotland and Norway.
In Norway, the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) will create a document on greener alternatives to microplastics to be used as infill material for artificial football pitches, including a Life Cycle Assessment and a comparative environmental impact analysis of new technologies.
