Recovery Workshop – ADO Den Haag
In recent months, steps have been taken to strengthen the partnership between Parnassia and ADO Den Haag in Society by starting up a new social project. In collaboration with the Mistral clinic, a meeting was organized in the Bingoal Stadium of ADO Den Haag with the theme of recovery. Mistral takes in young people between the ages of 12 and 23 who have problems with the use of drugs, alcohol, gaming, and/or gambling and the consequences thereof. ADO Den Haag player, Sacha Komljenovic, and ADO Den Haag’s physiotherapist, Edwin Coret, were also on hand to share their own recovery experiences with the youngsters.
The young people were ready to be picked up by a van from Van Heugten Tours with destination Bingoal Stadium. For most participants, it was the first time they traveled to the stadium. The young people were given a tour of the stadium. The press room, the SkyLounge, the command room, the changing rooms, and the field were visited, and everyone was also given the opportunity to take the necessary photos.
After the tour, it was time for the real work: the workshop on recovery and setting goals. The workshop was kicked off by Sacha Komljenovic and Edwin Coret with a fascinating panel discussion on recovery in a professional football environment. Sacha was asked how he dealt with his serious cruciate ligament injury and the relapse that comes with it, and also how he sets recovery goals for himself. Edwin talked about how he promotes player recovery and can also help in situations where recovery doesn’t go as expected.
The recovery from an injury can also be compared to the recovery from addiction. The support of your environment is of great importance here, you cannot do it alone. And the more effort you want to put into your recovery, the better the result of your recovery goals will be.
After this, the participants received the necessary explanation about how they can set their own goals according to the SMART method and how they can give themselves the best chances to achieve these goals. Subsequently, the young people were told what the difference is between motivation and discipline and how you can still persevere on days when the recovery is not going as well. With this information, the participants started working on the workshop assignments, in which they could formulate their own SMART goals for the coming months. Some participants briefly talked about their goals and passionately talked about how they want to achieve those goals in the coming months.
After the workshop, Sacha and Edwin were thanked for their contributions and it was time for the inspired youth to return to Mistral with a bag full of tips to help them achieve their recovery goals.
