Record Donation Sum at Eintracht’s Schlappekicker Game
Philip Holzer stops and scores for the Tradi, Trapp gloves bring in over 1000 euros and a full house at the benefit evening in Oberliederbach. Ten goals, more than 1,000 spectators, over 10,000 euros in donations! Never before in the history of the benefit match in favour of the Schlappekicker campaign has the attendance and thus also the donations generated been so high, even if the exact amount has not yet been determined. In addition to the admission fees and the income from the catering, some special donations and the proceeds from an auction, among other things, drove the amount up. In addition, former Eagle bearer Edgar “Eddy” Schmitt had a surprise for his former teammate Dietmar Roth. The match between the Eintracht traditional team and the Schlappekicker selection ended 7:3.
The “Schlappekicker” campaign of the Frankfurter Rundschau was founded in 1951 and supports sportsmen and sportswomen or sports clubs and initiatives that have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.
“Eintracht is an integrative part of the Schlappekicker campaign. It is a really good initiative because orders are placed with society. Continue your work, Eintracht will always actively support you.”
Axel Hellmann, board spokesman
“The highlight of the lightness and joy of our charity events is the traditional match with the Eintracht traditional team.”
Harald Stenger, Deputy Schlappekicker chairman before kick-off
While the Frankfurt team with manager Karl-Heinz Körbel, who is also the Schlappekicker patron, sent their usual Bundesliga-experienced squad onto the very well-kept pitch at SG Oberliederbach, players from the Frankfurter Rundschau – once the initiator of the campaign – from HIT RADIO FFH and the local host played for the Schlappekicker selection. Ramon Berndroth, once Körbel’s co-trainer at Eintracht and a member of the Schlappekicker board, and world champion Nia Künzer took over the coaching.
“If the game doesn’t go well, I’ll get out my laptop and be the laptop coach.”
Nia Künzer
SGO’s treasury was increasing in the evening – also a reward for the great preparation by Christian Raabe and his team. 1,200 spectators provided a record crowd for a Schlappekicker game, and the warm weather boosted sales at the food and beverage stands. Spontaneous and prominent special donations were made by referee Lutz Wagner, long-time Schlappekicker friend Eddy Hausmann and Liederbach’s mayor Eva Söllner. The auctions of Kevin Trapp’s goalkeeper gloves and two jerseys worn by Trapp and Sebastian Rode raised almost 2,000 euros, half of which went to the national keeper’s most important work utensils alone.
In addition to the Schlappekicker campaign, Felix Mack is also a beneficiary – someone who fits exactly into the profile of the campaign, which among other things supports athletes in need through no fault of their own. Mack, player and coach of the SGO, has been paraplegic since an accident last summer and followed the match in a wheelchair. Before kick-off, Edgar Schmitt and Schlappekicker chairman Arnd Festerling presented his former teammate Dietmar Roth, who has been paralysed on the right side since a stroke in 2013, with a cheque for 2,500 euros, which he had raised at a charity golf tournament.
