Real Betis Balompie Launching Innovative Sustainability Project

Real Betis Balompié is launching a new, strategic project – Forever Green – which is a sustainability platform that seeks to harness the power of sport to help save the planet. The official project launch took take place via a virtual presentation at the LaLiga headquarters attended by Ángel Haro, the president of Real Betis Balompié; La Liga president Javier Tebas and Spanish Secretary of State for Energy, Sara Aagesen.

Forever Green is a sustainability platform created by Real Betis in partnership with La Liga, United Nations, Government of Spain and Amazon. This platform invites companies to showcase their actions to contribute to the future of the planet and pursues the creation of conscience to fight for climate change. The programme will work in five areas:

  1. Mobility
  2. Climate change
  3. Nature
  4. Sustainability Club
  5. Recycling

The next steps after the launch are:

  • To make society aware of the importance of recycling.
  • To innovate and transform recycled plastic into the fabric used in jerseys.
  • To offer more ecological mobility alternatives to our fans and have the greenest group of fans in the world.
  • To convince companies of the benefits of replacing transport using fossil fuels with more environmentally friendly means.
  • To get involved in nature conservation actions in other parts of the planet alongside the Real Betis’ territory.
  • To install lighting systems in the Benito Villamarín Stadium and help make it a world reference in energy saving.

In the past, Real Betis has been part of other initiatives such as being the first football to join the “Climate Neutral Now” initiative from United Nations. This has seen Betis compensate for its carbon emissions in 2019 and also join “The Climate Pledge” initiative by Amazon.

Fundación Real Betis believes that football can be used as a tool to promote educational values, to contribute to the fight against marginalisation and social exclusion, as well as to promote healthy life habits among children and young people. Every year, Fundación Real Betis supports more than 300 organisations that work in the social or environmental sector, mainly in Seville and Andalusia. Each season, the Foundation addresses a long list of initiatives to continue their work to improve social, economic and environmental factors within the community, being aware that social responsibility is increasingly important in any type of organisation, but much more so in a club like Real Betis Balompié, where the value of feelings and emotions are always present.
