Rangers FC organizes food bank collection

Rangers Charity Foundation is making an urgent appeal to fans to help support their local food banks by bringing some non-perishable groceries to this weekend’s home match on Saturday 27th August against Ross County at Ibrox.

This year, as part of the #fanssupportingfoodbanks movement and head of National Food Bank Day on 2nd September, Rangers FC will be assisting four local groups with this collection: Crookston Community Group, Kindness, The Trussell Trust (Glasgow South West Foodbank) and Refuweegee

With the rising cost of living, food banks have been in greater demand and stocks have become lower as fewer people have been able to donate, so any items the community can bring to the game would help these local organisations provide assistance where it is most needed.

The food collection point will be available from 12pm till 3pm at the Broomloan Stand side of the Rangers FC Stadium, across from the Blue Gates, where volunteers will collect the donations. The food banks welcome all kinds of non-perishable food items.

“We at Crookston Community Group have seen a rapid increase of service users to our foodbank in last few months. First time users who before were just getting by are now being severely affected by the rising cost of living and coming to us for assistance. And we know this is just the tip of the iceberg of what is to come in the coming months.”

“We as an independent food bank have seen our donations from the public fall as the need for our services rises as people can no longer afford to donate and feed their own families. We, and I know all food banks across Glasgow, Scotland and the UK, are worried about what the next few months will hold.”

Karen Neary from Crookston Community Group

“We have been overwhelmed over the last few seasons by the quantity of food donated at our matchday collections.  These are challenging times for many people and, if you do feel able to donate and bring along a few groceries on Saturday, this will be so appreciated by those in need in our local communities.”
