Rangers Charity Foundation donates £25,000 to Unicef UK

He commented: “I am delighted to announce this significant donation to Unicef UK, demonstrating once again that the Foundation is there for children in their darkest hour. Rangers fans are incredibly generous and can be proud that their charitable spirit and support for the Foundation has made this donation possible. Unicef is doing incredible work around the world every day.  It is tragic that so many children, through no fault of their own, find themselves in very dangerous situations.  No child should have to face hunger, violence, lack of clean water or a safe place to sleep. Today’s donation will help some of the world’s most vulnerable children and I will be doing my bit to contribute to future donations by taking part in the Foundation’s True Blue Hero Fun Run next month.  I hope as many fans as possible will come along and join me on the day at Ibrox.”

Unicef UK’s Executive Director Mike Penrose added: “Our partnership with the Rangers Charity Foundation is helping to give vulnerable children around the world the life-saving support they need when an emergency strikes. We want to say a huge thank you to Rangers fans for their on-going support for Unicef UK. Together we are making a big difference to children’s lives.”

Foundation Director Connal Cochrane commented: “This is the first of our planned donations to Unicef UK’s Children’s Emergency Fund and with ongoing global situations such as the conflict in Syria, famine in South Sudan and drought in Ethiopia, there is undoubtedly a desperate need for Unicef’s life-saving interventions to help reduce the terrible misery being experienced by children. I would like to thank all of our supporters who take on personal challenges, volunteer, donate and do so much to help all the charities we support every season.  It is thanks to their commitment that we are able to help Unicef support children who urgently need assistance and shows once again that we can be a force for good around the world as well as much closer to home.”

For 70 years, Unicef has been a leader for children in emergencies and today responds to hundreds of humanitarian emergencies every year. When a disaster strikes, children are the hardest hit – and they make up more than half of those affected. Many emergencies don’t reach the headlines, but children’s lives are still at stake.  Children’s worlds are turned upside down.  Many lose families, their homes, their schools, even their lives.

Unicef UK’s Children’s Emergency Fund enables Unicef to provide a rapid response for children affected by emergencies, whenever and wherever they hit.  This means that Unicef is able to respond immediately with funds to help children, without having to wait to launch a public appeal.  The Fund is vital for Unicef to help children caught up in emergencies that may not have attracted wide attention or where interest has waned.
