Read more about the new initiatives below.
‘Tikkie’ back
With the programme ‘Tikkie Terug‘ (Literally Little back pass), the PSV Foundation wants to contribute to the acceptance and integration of people with dementia. The programme has been developed in cooperation with Alzheimer Nederland, Vitalis WoonZorg Groep, TU Eindhoven and Fontys University of Applied Sciences. The mission of ‘Tikkie Terug’ is to enable people with dementia to participate in society as long as possible within his or her own possibilities.
The programme consists of several sub-programmes that focus on retrieving memories through, for instance, video and audio fragments, exercise and letting people (re)experience happy moments. In addition, PSV is working on a dementia-friendly Philips Stadium. The official kick-off of ‘Tikkie Terug’ takes place on 1 July at 12.30 in the Philips Stadium.
Appropriate football
Under the collective name ‘appropriate football’ (passend voetbal in Dutch), various forms of adapted football have been created so that people with a disability can still play their beloved sport. One example is amputation football, which has been offered by the PSV Foundation since 2019. In collaboration with the Municipality of Meierijstad, Stichting Zwaluwen Jeugdactie, Gehandicaptensport Nederland and KNVB, PSV Foundation will start three new sports in September that also are part of ‘suitable football’: electric wheelchair football, frame football and football for the blind.
Electric wheelchair football
Electric wheelchair football is not yet offered anywhere in the Netherlands. PSV Foundation has the scoop. In England, however, the sport is already well known and some football clubs even have an electric wheelchair football team, including Manchester United. Electric wheelchair football is played between two teams of four players and a match lasts two times 40 minutes. A special footrest is attached to the wheelchair for passing and shooting.
Frame football
Frame football is played by people who cannot walk or run without an aid. It is played with a light indoor football that hardly bounces and on a hard, even surface, such as artificial grass or in a sports hall.
Football for the blind
Blind football is a Paralympic sport that is still little known in the Netherlands. It was especially developed for people with a visual handicap, but it is suitable for everyone because you play with goggles taped on. The ball contains a bell, so the players know where it is. PSV is the first professional football club to offer this sport independently.
Fit in the neighbourhood
Fit in the neighbourhood has been developed in cooperation with Partnerfonds Brainport Eindhoven. The lifestyle programme gives all adults in the Brainport Eindhoven region an opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle, the flow to sports clubs is stimulated and the social cohesion in the neighbourhoods improved. ‘Fit in de buurt’ is a lifestyle programme of theoretical meetings at PSV Foundation Academy Tongelre. In addition, sports are played together at various sports clubs and associations in the neighbourhood. The official kick-off of the programme is at the end of August.
PSV Foundation Academy Meierijstad
In September, a new training location will open in Meierijstad, the area above Eindhoven: PSV Foundation Academy Meierijstad. Municipality Meierijstad and PSV Foundation have a cooperation agreement that aims to offer appropriate football at this location. From the opening of PSV Foundation Academy Meierijstad, participants can participate free of charge in weekly training sessions in blind football, amputation football, electric wheelchair football and frame football.
