Project ‘The Hero’ is completed together with ADO Den Haag Players

On Monday 20 February and Tuesday 21 February, the 6th and 7th sessions of ‘The Hero’ were completed with primary schools SBO Het Avontuur and OBS Galvani. The pupils have made excellent efforts over the last month to combat bullying, discrimination, violence and racism.

In the process, the pupils also had the opportunity to learn about world cultures and religions. For the first time in the history of the project, an art competition was also held. For this, pupils had to make a drawing/painting/poem/video about bullying and the best design per class was rewarded with an ADO Den Haag goody bag.

Workshop Kick-Off

On 20 February and 21 February, the certificate presentations were kicked off with a workshop by the Anne Frank House. ‘De Aftrap’ (the name of the workshop) focuses on making the participants aware of the consequences of certain negative actions. To achieve this, students are shown some videos depicting a certain scenario. The youngsters are asked to choose the right action to achieve the most desirable solution. The groups always managed to pick out the right answers, yet some were curious about what would happen if they chose the wrong answers. After this, it quickly became clear that these solutions were not acceptable to them.

Stop Bullying or no WIFI?

Following this workshop, the students from both schools had two special guests over. At OBS Galvani, defender Denzel Hall and striker Mario Bilate were present and at SBO Het Avontuur, pupils were pleasantly surprised by the entry of Amar Catic and Finn van Breemen. All pupils were given the chance to write down some questions beforehand and among these were some very challenging questions. “Amar, would you rather choose to stop bullying forever or never have WiFi again?” Other questions read as follows: “Do you have a cat or a dog?” and these were just a little easier to answer.

The players themselves told the students that bullying is not acceptable and it certainly does not happen within the ADO squad. According to one of the players, bullies are often insecure about themselves and that is why they try to bring other people down. After the students had put the players through their paces, the participants all received their well-earned certificates from the players. There was also more than enough time to take photos with them.

Sports Bag Full of Great Memories

Of course, ‘De Held’ would not be complete without a game of football with the ADO players. Both schools got the chance to show off their skills to the selection players, who were impressed by the talent roaming the squares. Laying a ‘panna’ on the players was a bit more difficult, but the experience was definitely there. After a group photo with the players, it was time for all the youngsters to return to school with a sports bag full of fun memories and a certificate for four learning lessons!
