Program Coordinator In Ghana
Meet Aviel Salman
Tell us a little bit about yourself: How old are you, where are you from, how did you come by working in Mifalot?
My name is Aviel Salman and I’m 25 years old, I was born and raised in Jerusalem. I played Football for Beytar and Hapoel Jerusalem up to my military service. I was discharged after three years of service in a combat unit.
After the army I spent a year working and saving up for a year of traveling in India and Sri Lanka.
When I got back to Israel I moved to Tel-Aviv, after a short while I saw a Facebook post saying something about a group of refuge kids from Africa who were playing Football in my neighborhood park who needed a coach.
While working with the kids I participated in a MIfalot seminar and this is how I was first introduced to Mifalot, and this is where my relationship with Mifalot started.
After a short while I also started coaching two Mifalot teams in the city of Petch Tikva while still coaching my local team.
Tell us about this new and exciting project that you are leading in Ghana:
I was really excited when I first heard about, so I applied and was really happy when I got the job.
In Ghana I have two main goals, fist I train and coach local Football teams with the Mifalot methodology, and the second to locate and train local coaches.
So far I have started working with a few local teachers who are studying at a local education college. When we first met we started talking and found that we both love Football, from there it was easy to introduce him to Mifalot’s methodology and bring him on board.
I also started an educational sport program with the local school using the Mifalot foundations, we talk about an educational goal and then go out and play a game keeping that goal in mind.
What are your goals for the year?
I hope to build teams like the one we have in Okosiya (village), where we have a local coach who besides being a Football coach is also an educator.
This past week we spent over three hours cleaning metal, glass and garbage from where the kids were playing Football, the next step is to get some funds for a tractor to straighten out the field and the last step will be to plant grass. I hope to prepare and renovate many more suitable Football fields all over the country like this one.
What would you like to wish us for the New Year?
I hope all people will be kinder to each other and learn to love and respect one another.
Shana Tova!!
