Pro League invests in Football & Community

Aware of its social role, the Pro League has announced its support to the CSR projects of its clubs by making EUR 135 000 available for local projects.

Football & Community covers all activities of the Pro League that have a social or societal impact. For many years, it has supported its social partner Younited Belgium, developed campaigns against discrimination and, in April, made a donation of 100,000 euros to the Belgian Federation of Food Banks in the midst of the corona crisis.

Besides all the programmes the Pro League carries on, there are several initiatives that are also taking place at club-level. Each club follows its own Football & Community policy, focusing on different subjects, such as stadium accessibility, projects with vulnerable young people or walking football. In addition, almost every professional club supports a team of Younited Belgium. This organisation uses football to give a new turn to the lives of people struggling with homelessness, addiction, or poverty.

“Professional football has a powerful lever in its hands. It is important that every club uses it to make a social difference in their stadium and in their city. Closer to football: the new brand identity breathes what we as the Pro League want to stand for,” said Pro League CEO Pierre François.

The importance of Football & Community within the Pro League is growing year after year. In 2018 there was a budget for club support of 75,000 euros, in 2019 this rose to 100,000 euros. This year 135,000 euros was made available to support the social projects of the 21 professional clubs.

“In addition to a loud megaphone, professional football also has a powerful lever in its hands. It is important that every club uses it to make a social difference in their stadium and in their city. I am happy that our clubs are taking this responsibility and that we can help them to do so” added Pierre François.
