A taste of Pathways to Employment with Rose and the Hotspur Foundation

Danny Rose, football player of Tottenham Hotspur and the England National Team, got a first-hand look at one of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s projects, Pathways to Employment.

The scheme assists local people with a range of disabilities to gain the skills necessary to get into employment through confidence-building workshops. The England left-back got to meet Josh Ottley, a beneficiary of Pathways to Employment, at a recent session at Waltham Forest College, Walthamstow. Josh started attending Pathways to Employment in early 2016 to work on his self-esteem and has since gained employment as a porter at nearby Whipps Cross University Hospital.

The project is supported by the Premier League and BT Sport Disability Fund, and BT Sport Disability Fund have even produced a short film on Danny’s visit that was aired before this weekend’s game.

Tottenham Hotspur employs a dedicated Disability Officer responsible for co-ordinating the funding programme and promoting inclusion throughout the Club. Disability Officers work with local agencies to amplify existing work and deliver programmes that engage disabled people through sport.

Last week marked a decade since the Foundation was officially launched. Over the past 10 years, more than 2.75 million opportunities have been created through innovative projects  focused on driving employability, improving the educational attainment of local young people, promoting community development within some of North London’s  most deprived communities, encouraging healthier lifestyles and providing access to sport for people of all abilities.
