One year of SPIELRAUM!

The start last autumn was a milestone. For a year now, SV Werder Bremen has been bundling its commitment to the SPIELRAUM concept to get children and young people moving. A look back shows that a lot has already been achieved.

13 SPIELRAUM coaches move the kids in seven Spielräumen. The coaches now regularly move kids to kindergartens, schools and clubs. 24 kindergartens, 36 primary schools and 28 secondary schools as well as ten partner clubs are involved. An impressive 102 physical activity programmes are regularly held in Bremen and Lower Saxony in these nurseries, schools and clubs alone. On top of that, there are seven weekly inclusive sports programmes and eleven football pitch programmes. These figures send a very positive signal after only one year: Things are moving forward, the concept is taking hold and the SPIELRÄUME are growing.

But things are also progressing outside of the weekly training/exercise programmes. In the supervision time, three school leagues “Community Champions League” as well as SPIELRAUM primary school series Blumenthal and Gröpelingen were organised and carried out by Werder. In leisure time, six match days each were organised as part of the open pitch series “Hemelinger Liga” and “Tenever Liga” – all true to the goal of giving children and young people access to sport 365 days a year if possible.

Inclusive sport at Werder continues to expand

The goal: to give children and young people access to sport.
Not least due to the start of the “Special Champions League”, inclusion sport at Werder is also continuing to expand. Since the autumn, ten sporting events for people with disabilities have been held in addition to the weekly football, handball, table tennis and athletics programmes. In addition to the WERDER BEWEGT football days, these included two European Football Weeks, a Football Friends Cup, the traditional I-Cup, a taster day for blind football, a table tennis day as part of the Special Olympics sports series and four match days of the newly founded “Bunte Liga”, a league format that was launched together with the Bremen Football Association.

In addition to “sport”, “network” and “education” are the other pillars of the SPIELRAUM concept. In the last twelve months, nine further education events in the field of children’s sport were organised at and with partners. There were five network meetings of the participating day-care centres, schools and clubs. And within the company, the SPIELRAUM concept also links the CSR Directorate closely with the WERDER Performance Centre, Scouting, Women’s Football, the WERDER Football School and the club, so that a total of 17 cross-departmental programmes have been realised since 2021 – another important step.
