OFI Crete FC – Childhood Cancer Awareness Week
Our Greek EFDN Member OFI Crete FC dedicated the month of September to raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. The club created special events during their two home games vs AEK Athens (on September 19th ) and Asteras Tripoli (on September 22nd). Both initiatives had as main objective to collect blood and teddy bears to support children and teenagers with cancer.
The action “Our Heroes” of OFI 1925 FC is carried out in cooperation with the “Company of Love” and the University General Hospital of Heraklion, and encouraged fans to participate in a voluntary blood donation. The goal of our team is to collect as many blood bottles as possible to support children and teenagers with cancer. In compensation, the management of the club decided that those who come to the stadium and donate blood for the children will receive a free ticket to watch the game against Asteras Tripoli.
In fact, the initiative is the culmination of OFI’s team actions, with the players of both teams entering the pitch wearing T-shirts with the golden ribbon and the message “Our heroes”, while this symbol against childhood cancer will be worn by all the team’s staff working at the stadium.
At the same time, OFI Crete FC, wanting to offer love and joy to children in need, invited all fans coming to the stadium to bring a stuffed animal or bear with them. Shortly after the warm-up of the players, all the teddy bears were thrown on the pitch, and in the next few days the players of our team will give them away to young children.
